Aftercare

Under dry conditions, ensure that all areas receive a minimum of two hours water, applied with a sprinkler, each day, until the turf has thoroughly rooted. This is when the turfs cannot be lifted up even when pulled hard. Under damp conditions the amount of watering can be reduced accordingly.

Ensure that all corners, edges and inaccessible areas receive water, as moisture will not move sideways through the turf.

Be careful not to step on the turf whilst it is establishing, as footmarks are difficult to eradicate. Use a scaffold board or similar laid on the turf to walk on when placing or moving the sprinkler. Bear in mind that rolling the turf will not successfully eliminate footmarks.

Don’t be afraid to water the turf at any time of day – the danger of shrinkage or drying out is far greater than any harm that can arise from watering in full sunlight.

As the turf becomes established, reduce watering gradually over a period of 3–5 days. Around 3 days after watering has ceased and provided that heavy rainfall has not occurred, the ground will probably have firmed up enough to allow the first grasscut to take place.

Turf should have its first cut before it exceeds a height of 50mm. Do not remove more than 20mm. on the first cut. Subsequent cuts can be taken down to a lower level. Always remove all the cuttings from the lawn.

A propriety brand of fertilizer can be used to nourish the lawn in the spring and autumn, however, avoid the use of selective herbicides until the lawn has been established for twelve months.
